The Norcal Team Challenge on the weekend of November 5-6, 2016 was an incredible success. Thanks to the vision and drive of Monterey's Nick Maffei for organizing the event which invited 12 northern California clubs to bring 12 fiercely competitive players to battle 6 separate, 12 hole match play rounds using the alternate doubles format. This required players to work in teams of 4 to try and best their competition in many starts and stops throughout the weekend. Not every club played each other, but by the luck of the draw Team San Jose was able to compete against all of the teams that finished in the top half. We were able to beat the UFOs from Sonoma and tie Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Francisco. Only the team from Lake County were able to boast a victory over Team San Jose. Each member of the team had brilliant moments either nailing long putts or lacing drives to hold back the confidence of the opposition! Most of the following photos were taken by the talented photographer and wife of Anthony O'Malley. Thank you Tias O'Malley for the incredible photos of the event, as well as Bernadette Peralta for helping to document Team San Jose!
From Team Captain Nick Sorich:
That was an awesome battle. Our club showed up and beat some very good teams.
Thanks Tom Wong for everything that you did this weekend. The food, management, the arranger for tire repair and many other things.
Also a big thanks to Eric Stachnick for the awesome discs, our fancy new jersey's (with incredible artwork) and the website which got a lot of compliments. Next year we're going to do even better. Great job everyone!
